steps to success

Starting yoga can be a daunting prospect. Here are a few steps to help you know what to expect:

Step 1

Arrive at least 15 minutes before the class starts – to register, change and settle down.

Step 2

Introduce yourself to the teacher before class begins. Let them know about any health concerns you might have and let them know this is your first class. Feel free to ask questions before and after class!

Step 3

Watch and listen to the teacher for guidance and cues.

Step 4

Pace yourself and listen to your body.

Step 5

Feeling overheated or dizzy, and need to rest? No worries. Take a deep breath, sit or lay down and take a quick break. We encourage not leaving the room- whenever possible stay on your mat and relax. And, by all means, donʼt hesitate to signal to the instructor if you need support.

Step 6

Be patient. Everyone in the class may be at different levels so allow yourself several classes to get into the flow – remember, the more you practice, the more youʼll benefit from each class.

Step 7

Drink plenty of water before class and after class. Try to only drink as much water as you need during class. And try not to put out the fire by drinking too much!

  • Arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the class. All classes start on time. Please be reminded that latecomers won’t be permitted to enter the studio once the door is closed and the class is in progress.
  • Remove your shoes upon arrival (winter boots and jackets must be left in the Boot Room).
  • Ensure that cell phones are turned off upon entering our facilities.
  • Sign-in at the front desk before entering the studio for class even if you have reserved a space in advance.
  • Keep your voices low in the lounge/common area as classes may be in session.
  • Ensure that no personal belongings enter the studios and that they are locked in the provided lockers.
  • The yoga studio is a silent room. Please do not talk while in the studio.
  • Do your best to remain in the studio for the entire duration of class especially during savasana (final resting pose).
  • In helping to improve our environment please refrain from using aerosol sprays and excessive perfumes out of respect for the environment and fellow yogis.

frequently asked questions

Iʼm not flexible- can I do yoga?

By all means-yes! Very few people start out in life being totally flexible. Flexibility develops over time and postures can be modified to suit your level.

What if I just canʼt do a pose?

No problem! Our teachers will suggest variations of the poses so that everyone can benefit. Everything you enter into a pose, you will gain a little more confidence and learn that doing your best, is all that matters.

Do I need to make a reservation for class or just show up?

To ensure that you get a spot in the class, we suggest reserving online. However, if you would simply like to show up, we welcome you just the same!

Do I need to check in before class?

Yes. Even if you have reserved for a class online, you need to check-in at the front desk prior to entering the practice room.

How often should I practice?

Like most things, the more you practice, the more you will get out of it and the more you will reap the benefits. Try to commit to two to three times a week.

When should I avoid doing hot yoga?

If you are pregnant or have other medical conditions such as diabetes or cardiovascular disease we recommend that you consult your doctor prior to taking any hot yoga classes.
